Comparative Yield and Photosynthetic Characteristics of Two Corn (Zea mays L.) Hybrids Differing in Maturity under Different Irrigation Treatments

Effective irrigation strategies are of great significance for improving crop yields. There is an increasing concern that short-season corn hybrids gradually being encouraged to plant in the North China Plain (NCP) with development mechanized grain harvesting, but photosynthetic characteristics and productivity not well documented. The objective study was investigate effects different treatments on characteristics, dry matter accumulation (DMA) photo-assimilate translocation (PAT/PT), yield (GY) water (WP) two differing maturity. In experiment plots under rainout shelter facility, hybrid Denghai518 (DH518) medium- full-season Denghai605 (DH605) were grown three levels (severe stress, T1; mild T2; non-stress, T3) by methods (flood irrigation, FI; surface drip SDI) 2020 2021. results indicated non-stomatal limitation (NSL) main factor leading reduction photosynthesis during reproductive stage. Severe stress significantly decreased net rate (Pn) chlorophyll soil-plant analysis (SPAD) value, resulting lower DMA GY. contribution vegetative organ photosynthate before flowering (CRP) increasing. DMA, GY WP SDI increased 16.23%, 21.49% 51.31%, respectively, compared FI. yields DH518 7.22% than those DH605. penalty DH605 attributed a relatively larger ET. It suggested applying optimum level (T3) could increase summer NCP.
